Symbio Wildlife Park

We went to Symbio Wildlife Park last Tuesday. It is located on the north of  Wollongong. It was a wonderful day! We saw many different animals.

We took a small bus to get there. Willie was our driver who is a nice man. We saw many colourful birds. We feed and touched Kangeroos and took some pictures with them. It was a lovely animals. There was a show in the noon.We saw koala and possum and snake. The keepers told us something about these three animals, what they like eating and where they come from.

This was a big excursion because all AMEP students were there together. It was a happy day that I would remember it.

A good posture

Posture is the way you sit and walk. A good posture is sitting up straight and walking with the head up.A good posture is so important for everyone's health.

What problems can be caused by bad posture? According to some new research, modern technology is the main reason. If you usually are slouching, you 'll have a bad back problem. "Slouching"means you bend your back and your neck. So slouching is bad posture. Some kids like playing video games and using computers which can cause bad posture to get worse.Modern technology can give us bad posture and lead to back problems.

"The key message is to limit the amount of time you spend hunched over a keyboard and be active as often as you can." I  agree wtih this. We should do exercises as often as we can!

Unique Australiananimals

There are unique animals in Australia, such as the koala, the Australian Pelican, the Wallaroo, the Sawfish, the Emu and the Australian Fur Seal.

Koalas are ash grey with a white chest, thick fur, fluffy ears and a broad flat nose. Thet have strong limbs and large hands to climb trees. Surprisingly they have a short stumpy tail which is of no assistance to then in climbing at all. The koala survives on Eucalypt leaves.

Pelicans are big birds with a very large wingspan, large beaks. Australian Pelicans are white in colour with black markings on their tail. Their eyes are brown and white. Their bills and very large and pink and is the longest beak of all the types of Pelicans in the world. Their legs and feet are blue-grey in colour. They are so buoyant they cannot sink under water. In Australia, wherever there is water you can possibly find Pelicans.

The male Australian Fur Seal weighs up to 360 kgs and is approximately 2 metres long. They are dark greyish to brown with a paler underside, and a dark mane of coarse hair over the neck and shoulders. The lifespan of an Australian Fur Seal male is roughly 19 years.

Fur Seal females are smaller and lighter than their males. Females weigh up to 100 kgs and are 1.7 metres in length. Females vary in colour from pale fawn to grey to greyish brown to silver gray, with a pale throat and brown underside. Their lifespan is roughly 21years.

Health Expo 2011

We had a wonderful day  at the Health Expo last Wednesday!

I took some fried buns to the Expo. My classmates took all kinds of food. There was some pasta, fruit salad, dumplings, and some other native food. It was yummy! At the end of the Expo most of the food was sold out!

Some teachers and students sold raffle tickets. I bought three tickets from Andrew. So did Candy! Then we went around to ask something to the exhibitors about the things we were interested in.

Marion, Tammy and Melanie won  raffle ticket prizes. They were so lucky!

We had a great time and learnt some useful information!

Phoebe's Fire Alarm

Phoebe was woken up by some noise. It was her fire alarm. It was beeping so Phoebe tried to turn it off, but she couldn't find the button. Then she removed it and put it on the table. She thought it was not beeping any more. But it was. She took the battery off. She went to her bed room. The alarm was still beeping. She was angry. She tried to disconnect the wires, but she couldn't tell which wire it shoud be. Then she broke the alarm into pieces. It was still beeping. Finally she wrapped the alarm and went outside and threw it into rubbish chute.

Phoebe thought she could go back to sleep. After a few minutes someone knocked at her door. Then Phoebe got up to see who it was. Someone called " Phoebe Buffay! ", Phoebe said " fire alarm! ", It was so funny! When she opened the door, it was a fire officer. The officer gave the alarm to Phoebe and told Phoebe there was a reset button to turn it off. Phoebe was so happy to hear that. When she tried to reset the fire alarm she saw the button had fallen down on the floor so she couldn't do anthing. She put on her hat and ear muffs to stop hearing the beeping noise. It worked. She sang a song to get her to sleep. But it was hard to get to sleep. In the end she took off the hat and the ear muffs. She couldn't go to sleep all the night! 'Twas a horrible night!

Leonardo DiCaprio is a environmentalist

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the greatest actors. He is very charming, and he has filmed lots of popular movies.

DiCaprio's first gig was Critters 3  which was a horror film. Leonardo made his big screen breakthrough in 1992. He played the lead role in This Boy's Life. Leonardo earn an Academy Award Nomination for Best Supporting Actor in What's Eating Gilbert Grape in 1994. In 1999, Leonardo filmed Danny Boyle's screen adaption of the best selling novel The Beach that was shot in Thailand.

Aside from film acting, Leo's lifelong passion for environment awareness began to play a big role in his life. He interviewed a famous former president Al Gore in a special on the deterioration of the ozone layer. The most threatening problem for humanity is global warming. Four effects of global warming are flood, freak storms, rising sea levels and ice melting. DiCaprio’s motto in this spoken piece is Get Educated ,Stay Educated. The reasons that cause water shortages are pollution, over population, climate change and so on.

We can be environmentalists, get educated and stay educated! So we can think for ourselves, join the fight to see is needed to plan for future generations.

A long break

During the holiday I didn't go to Easter Show because I went to the show last year. I think we'll go to the Easter Show next year when my daughter comes from China. It's really funny for children!

I just stayed at home for this holiday because my husband needed to work every day. Just one day I went shopping with Mia. We had lunch together. Then we looked around the shopping centre. I was very happy to chat with my girlfriend.

Time went fast. I felt that I did nothing during this holiday. Maybe doing nothing means to relax during the holiday.

Earth Hour

At 8:30 PM on Saturday 26th March 2011, lights were turned off for more than 1 hour for Earth Hour. Earth Hour is about millions of people all over the world coming together to switch off their lights.

I turned off all lights for 1 hour for Earth Hour. I switched off the microwave too.I unplugged the TV.

In fact, I switch the microwave off and unplug the TV everyday. I hope other people would also do these similar things everyday; Switch off non-essential energy;  Save as much as energy you can for the world and yourself.

Weekend

This weekend my husband and I just stayed at home. After breakfast on Saturday, we started to do the housework, such as washing and dusting. Sometimes I turned the radio on when I was doing the housework. I think this is an another way that I can develop my English skills. My husband cook the meal everyday because he does it better than me, so I do the washing up after the meal.

After lunch, I began to do my homework, designing my blog, writing the diary, listening to the short talk which is on Marion's blog and so on. Then, I viewed every classmate's blog. I could learn something from their's. It's took 3 hours to complete these things.

We often prepare some Chinese dishes, like fried  rice and egg, steamed whole fish..., today my husband cooked the dishes with baby onions and pork, tomatoes and eggs. It  was absolutely delicious! After finishing dinner, I  watched TV shows online, chatted with my friends online. I went to bed at 11.00 PM.

Maybe everyday is like this, but I still enjoy it. Such is life!
